Dr.Daniel J. Gutman
Dr. Daniel J. Gutman was born just outside of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, but moved to Arizona when I was only two. I moved to San Diego in 2005 in pursuit of the ultimate goal of a DVM. I earned my bachelor’s in physiology and neuroscience at UC San Diego in 2010 and volunteered with wildlife and rescue animals in my spare time. I completed a master’s of biomedical sciences at Colorado State University in 2012. Post-master’s and one more year of clinical small animal experience (including a couple of months working with primates in Maui) and I was accepted into the DVM program at WesternU. I led the WesternU necropsy team at the Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro and played an active role in the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association as well as being a student representative for a pet food company. The plethora of experiences has helped me to take a holistic approach to veterinary medicine. I love San Diego and have always planned on returning after my educational endeavors to be a part of the community. When I am not at the clinic, I will be spending time with my rescue dog Lyla, who as accompanied me everywhere the past 6 years, or I will be in the ocean with a big smile on my face.
Teddy is our hospital mascot, and is featured on our logo. He was adopted by Dr. Barnes in 2003. He is now Dr. Barnes' loyal sidekick spending his days in the hospital with 'Dad,' lounging in whatever sun spot he can find or stealing our Office Manager's chair for a nap. Teddy also loves to meet and greet fellow canines, lending moral support when needed. Give him a pet when you see him.
